On a week when Kazakhstan has agreed stronger ties with western countries, looking forward, areas of the country are also keen to respect the long-standing traditions of the great steppe, with a number of events taking place to mark this commitment, reports Kazakhstan Today.
Both the Almaty and Ulytau Regions have lined up significant festivals to showcase and celebrate Kazakhstan’s enduring traditions, both to take place on 27 June with both large crowds, and enormous herds, expected to attend.
1,000 horses, some taking part in races, will feature in the Almaty Region’s own festival, one taking place in the Kegen District. This celebration, known as Qymyzmuryndyq 2026 will be the 368th Anniversary of Abyz-Baby Almerek Zhanshykuly, and visitors will be able to enjoy their favourite Kazakh festivities; crafts, games, and music. Meanwhile, Yeraliyev, a village in the Zhanaarka district of the Ulytau Region, will host guests as part of their very own Kokmaisa event, which will showcase the history of life in the nomadic steppe.
Residents are likely to show up in their numbers at 10:00 a.m., but visitors will also receive a warm Kazakhstani welcome as they witness the spectacle of the traditional Qymyzmuryndyq ceremony, as well as games and crafts, and this time, 500 horses.
