New figures from the Bureau of National Statistics, as reported by Astana Times, show that the market for ice cream in Kazakhstan is far from melting, as demand for the frozen confectionery has rippled across the region in recent months.
Scooping the position of market leader is the Almaty Region, which churned out 66.3% of the total 35,100 tons of Kazakhstani ice cream from January to May this year, while the Turkistan Region is also a major hub, making 6,000 tons.
It is hoped that production in the coming years will enter the hundreds and thousands of tons, customers not expected to dessert a growing industry.
The product is mainly sold across the region, Russia being the primary customer, importing 4,300 tons of Kazakh ice cream. The Kyrgyz Republic bought approaching 68.4% more than in previous periods, and Uzbekistan increased its orders by 27.7%, the total increase for the whole market 77% compared to the previous year.
The most popular choices for consumers are creamy ice cream and a fuller-fat variety known as plombir, often enjoyed in Kazakhstan on Sundaes when the family heads off to one of the wonderful local parks to enjoy the weather.
