Crime statistics published on the Numbeo website are both encouraging and reassuring for residents and visitors to the Kazakhstani capital of Astana, as the city ranks among some of the world’s safer destinations, reports Qazinform.
The data is released half-yearly and places Astana in 100th place globally, with a Crime Index of 33.3 and a Safety Index of 66.7. The information was gathered from over 400 cities.
The six most crime-free cities are all in the Gulf region, and of them, only Doha is not located in the UAE. Their ranking shows as between 83.8% for Dubai and 88.8% in the case of Ajman, listed as the world’s safest.
In stark contrast to Pretoria and Caracas and their safety indices of under 20, Astana starts the era of the new Constitution as a higher-trust society, one of the hallmarks of a progressive country, in this case not measured by official statistics but by perceptions of crime and the concern residents have about becoming victims of theft, violent crime, and other criminal acts.
