Comic Con Astana 2026 was an enormous success, as the Kazakh capital welcomed 76,000 people to the growing event. Almaty, meanwhile, is set to stage a similar show, albeit on a smaller scale, as the Almaty Geek Games Expo 2026 takes place on 26-27 September.
The Baulan Sholak Sports Palace, right in the centre of the city and only a few paces from the Central Stadium, will see fans of cosplay, gaming, and cinema gather for the annual get-together which started in 2022. Since then, it has moved from Atakent and now welcomes over 5,000 visitors.
As for special guests, Kursiv Media reports that Korean actor, Park Sung-hoon, famous for starring in the Netflix hit Squid Game, will be there, making his first to visit Kazakhstan in order to headline the show alongside actor Daniel Portman. The Scot has appeared in Game of Thrones and Black Mirror, and following the impact his co-star, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, had at Comic Con Astana, is likely to be excited about coming too.
With more names set to be announced over the coming week, Almaty Geek Games Expo 2026 is definitely something to get excited about, and even if the impact will be less than that of its mammoth sister convention in Astana, if you are in the area and like this sort of thing, it’s still a must-do.
